Romantic comedies conventions

The characters in the film should reflect the audience, so as the easiest actors to use are my age, my target audience will be my age group. This would make my film a 'teen romantic comedy'. This means the settings within the film are relatable to the characters, so a school setting may be used, along with other places teenagers/young adults may go. Also, the costumes used will signify a 'clique' and be obvious to tell what the clique is from the costume.

Conventions:

- mainly aimed at a female audience

- aimed at a young adult audience

- same basic storyline

- slower pace compared to genres like action

- often told from females point of view
                 - this conforms the the gender stereotypes of females being more emotional and thinking more and relationships. If a film is told from a male point of view, it is often because the male is unstereotypical. An example of this is She's out of my League (2010, dir. Jim Field Smith). You can see from the poster of the film that the male character is the main focus, and rather unstereotypical.

- comedic aspect to the relationship

-obstacles stopping the couple from being together in the beginning
